President of China
Mr. XI Jinping
“To build a China-Pakistan community of shared destiny is a strategic decision made by our two governments and peoples. Let us work together to create and even brighter future for China and Pakistan.”
China and Pakistan have seen their diplomatic relations evolving and growing stronger since their formal establishment. Despite changes over different historical periods, the governments and people of both countries have worked tirelessly to enrich their friendship, becoming a model for friendly bilateral ties between cultures, social systems, and ideologies. The significance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to cement economic relations and promote friendly cooperation between the two nations cannot be overstated. Starting from Kashgar in Xinjiang, China, and ending in Karachi and Gwadar, Pakistan, via the Khunjerab Pass and other key locations, CPEC showcases the shared destiny of China and Pakistan while fostering regional development.
During President Xi Jinping’s visit to Pakistan in April 2015, the strategic cooperation partnership between the two countries gained new dimensions. The “1+4” cooperation mode was established, with CPEC as the core and a focus on Gwadar, Energy, Transport Infrastructure, and Industrial Cooperation. This initiative marks a fresh milestone in the construction of CPEC.
Both countries have set up a cooperation mechanism to coordinate CPEC development, as agreed upon by Premier Li Keqiang and former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. They jointly formulated the Long-Term Plan for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (2017-2030), which is in line with relevant national and local plans of both countries, including Pakistan’s Vision 2025. This comprehensive plan sets the stage for short-term projects until 2020, medium-term projects until 2025, and long-term projects until 2030.
By constantly strengthening their ties and pursuing mutual development, China and Pakistan are poised to embark on a prosperous future together.
